The “Origin Story”

In the early years of our relationship my wife Sarah and I lived together in a one bedroom apartment in downtown Peterborough, Ontario. We were young, in love and living fast-paced.

We worked our jobs during the day (Sarah in education, myself in sales/marketing) and socialized most nights. We travelled frequently and didn’t want the responsibility of owning a home.

The First Home

We were three years into apartment living when things started to change. The one-bedroom apartment feltcramped and living downtown didn’t  feel so safe anymore. Driving to work one day I saw a run-down semi-detached home for sale. The home was an absolute mess, but we both agreed it felt like “our mess”.

We had no plan to buy a home, let alone renovate one but feeling bold we made an offer and it was accepted. We learned everything about home ownership and renovation the hard way.

Career Change

Soon after we moved I began reevaluating my career; I wanted more impact and more meaning in my work. People always told me I’d be a great realtor but it wasn’t until I became a homeowner that I understood the true impact of real estate.

When I became a realtor everything clicked career-wise. My years of marketing and sales were incredibly transferable and my career was perfectly aligned with my core values. I absolutely loved helping clients through the process of buying and selling real estate.

Family

I was an experienced and established realtor when Sarah and I found out that she was pregnant. Our son, the love of our lives, Myles was born on November 9, 2020. Our mindset quickly shifted to “parent mode”. We began evaluating where we currently lived. Too many stairs, no young kids in the neighbourhood, no sidewalks, neighbours were too noisy, and a sub-par public school nearby.

The Next Move

When Myles was 6 months old a house came up for sale in a beautiful neighbourhood. This home was everything that Sarah and I wanted for our family. This time around I was an experienced realtor and we were prepared to move, or as prepared as you can be with a 6-month-old. I was able to sell our first home for more than double what we’d paid for it - our first home afforded us our new home.

Ultimately, the process of buying, renovating and selling our first home inspired me to enroll in real estate investment training and coaching. Now, I’m not only a family-focused realtor but also a seasoned investor. Sharing my investment knowledge and experience with families is a passion of mine. I take great pride in helping families build generational wealth through real estate.
